Who We Are

At Arbor Halides, we’re dedicated to advancing molten salt technologies to drive a more sustainable world. With decades of combined expertise in nuclear energy and molten salt chemistry, our team is at the forefront of developing innovative solutions for safer reactors, nuclear fuel recycling, renewable energy storage, and fusion technologies.

Meet the Team

Led by Dr. Adam Burak and advised by Dr. Michael Simpson, our leadership team brings decades of hands-on research and development experience.

Adam Burak – Founder & President

Dr. Adam Burak, our founder and lead researcher, brings over a decade of expertise in molten salt research, specializing in applications for nuclear energy, nuclear fuel recycling, and fundamental salt chemistry. He has extensive experience designing, building, and operating molten salt facilities at all scales, from grams to hundreds of kilograms. His expertise spans the purification, synthesis, and characterization of molten salts, including both fluoride and chloride salts, as well as those containing actinides.

Dr. Burak has overseen a broad range of high-impact projects that contribute to the advancement of the molten salt field, including over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is also a proud veteran that served in the United States Marine Corps, including two combat tours.

Michael Simpson – Chief Advisor

Dr. Michael Simpson is a recognized leader in molten salt research and advanced nuclear technologies. He is the lead of the Utah Nuclear Pyrometallurgy Laboratory and a Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Utah. Prior to this, Dr. Simpson spent numerous years conducting research at Idaho National Laboratory. He has authored over 200 publications, many of which focus on the application of molten salts to areas such as nuclear fuel recycling and electrochemistry.

Dr. Simpson is actively working to enhance the efficiency of molten salt reactors and ensure the safe, sustainable use of nuclear energy. His expertise also extends to the development of molten salts as heat transfer and storage fluids for concentrating solar power (CSP) systems. Dr. Simpson brings a wealth of experience to Arbor Halides, providing essential technical guidance. His extensive background and contributions to the field make him an invaluable partner in advancing molten salt chemistry and the development of nuclear fuel recycling technologies.
